Jack Palance

Heres another art jumble post for dead celebrities. I chose to do Jack Palance, I hope it obvious enough that it's him. He had such a wild life you'd think it was film in itself. He was a war hero in WWII, held a heavyweight boxing champion title and won an Oscar.

Manatease

Heres a pic for Art jumble that might be submitted into a website for the Conan O'brian Show. The Character is a Horny Manatee that has made place on Conan's show apparently. So here's my take on a horny Manatee, enjoy!

Christmas Card 2006

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Like most people I'm anxious to have some time off in the upcoming weeks ahead, to mingle, sleep in, play my xbox 360 and share some presents. Winter seems to always be a drag with it's lack of daylight and of course this frigid Canadian weather. I have tried to send this card to everyone within our 50 card limit, and hope that it can add a little cheer! I hope those of you who haven't recieved one enjoy this picture. I can't wait to do next years. Perhaps, I'll start over the holidays?

Snowmen of 2005

It's that time of year again... Mall madness, spending more than you make and of course fighting armies of evil snowmen who's poker party you made ruin when you peed on them. Okay, well that's not every ones idea of the holiday season but to Checkers, Buffy and David it is. These characters are based on my family pets who's abstracted personalities come to life in this scene of mayhem and quirkiness. I hope to make a short film about these guys one day, I think they'd take off on TV or in a film. Anyway, here's a picture to usher in the holiday season. It's too bad I won't have the time to make a part II this year!

Happy birthday dale!

Well,
Here's the second caricature of two I've made this month commemorating my two good friends November birthdays. Dale, is a stop mo animation director and a keen artist who's blog you'll find in my index of links, his brother has some nice work to despite his girly name. My girlfriend seems to think this doesn't look like him, but I'd rather differ as fools do. She could be right though, I am overdue for a check up with the optometrist. Good thing I'm seeing one this wed!

Happy 27th Chris

Here's a caricature of a good friend who's a TTC supervisor/gulag commissar for the transit proletariat. I've got a portrait theme going this year for him and my other stop mo director pal Dale who's card won't be posted till his birthday. I wanted to give these two an oil painting like feel with just seasoning of caricature. So far this is all done inf Flash 8 but I intend on adding to it in photo shop or Art rage 2.....Can you tell I've been cooking?

Return of the charcoal

It seems that conte has taken a bit of a back seat in my life drawing these past weeks. I've stumbled upon a stick of charcoal thats given me some interesting results. I've been trying to take a different approach by blocking in light/mass rather than drawing mass then lighting. In some other drawings I tried blocking shade in one direction and leaving the lighted areas as the neutral colour of the page.

Extra Dragons

Heres a few more dragons I made for a project I've been working on. These guys are few of the many background characters I've created. 26 in all, they've been fun to work on despite the quick turn around.

Over the hill

Heres a pic I've illustrated for my father's upcoming birthday. Naturally, he and my mother enjoy the outdoors and each other's company. This picture is inspired by both their two great personalities and seemlingly endless amounts of character. I hope I managed to capture those qualities as fondly as I see them both.

Dragons

These three dragons are concepts I've created for an interactive game. One set is a more
"disneyish" style while the other 3 lean to a more stream lined anime style.

Villians and heros?

Well, this picture is one concept picture of two that I designed for a potential comic...involving racing. It seems that bad guys to me are always funner to make than heros. I found it difficult to make a lovable character. I think that may be one thing that is pushed too much in pop culture. Why do our heros have to be flawless? If anything we can identify with villians more than hero's because of their flaws. I think it's that specific quality that always lures me to be more intrigued by a flawed hero or a villian. Everyone loves Batman and he's about as f#$% as it gets. We need more Batmen.

Robyn!

This image is a tribute to my best freind and coincedentaly also my girlfreind. I plan to have this branded on a t-shirt for her when she gets back from the strudel littered mountian tops of Austria....

You can see on the left the vector art and on the right the final branded image. Too bad it lost some colour in the printing process.

Life Drawing

Here's a piece from one of the many life drawing sessions I've done this year after work. I can say it's been beneficial, and a great way to keep the drawing skills fresh. This one, is one of my favorites so far. This pose as well as most of the poses we do range from 5-10 min in length. I think the 10min poses are my personal preference. Its amazing what you can do with just a stick charcoal.

Hook's ship

Heres one I did a while back for a show that never went to air. It's the concept design of a pirate ship deck. Done in Flash MX it's a nice example of what you can do with just simple shapes of colour. The main idea here was too keep all the colours at the lowest possible saturation, this inturn makes the charcters stand out.

Sudbordor

Here's my first posting, this is a picture inspired by a city in Northern Ontario that reminds me of Mordor from the lord of the Rings. The landscape was so blackened and ruined from the mining industry it might has well have been ground zero. It also helped to get some inspiration by playing Battle For Middle Earth at the time...... This pic was done using flash mx and based off a few quick sketches.
