Here's the size relationship between Goblin and man assuming the human is 6 feet or so.
This image is another rough drawing of Paragon Greystone thats baesd off an older post. I've revised the character a bit and will do more digital revisions. I'm doing the linear drawings of these 2 character in flash and then adding colour through photoshop to see how the characters look a finished pieces. I've been debating inking them traditionally but I think that may prove to make more lengthy process for colouring. Unless anyone out there knows a more efficient way? Please share!!!

Every year I try to get one of these out in time for print, process and mail. It seems like a task when everything else in the mix like Christmas shopping and working around our daughters schedule limit the time. Despite all that it's a fun project to partake in and one I always feel satisfied doing annually. I think if I didn't I'd feel more guilty than not! Well enough of me griping, here's our annual family Christmas card featuring our new addition in the company of our two feathered friends, furry feline-son Le Roy and us of course. I hope you enjoy it!

the Hands of Doom

Thanks to the Pitt pens and a nice moleskine A4 sketchbook I've been able to press my ideas out faster with more detail than previous sketch books. Here are some sketches for a personal project that's been brewing for a long time. I've found on my commute home or in between programs crashing at work my mind will wonder to this imaginary world I've been creating. The premise is centered around the return of 5 demonic gods in another world not unlike our own. So you can see the reason for the horrific imagery. I look forward to posting more development sketches as I progress. I hope to have a nice package of design work to start sketching out some book pages in the near future.

Here's an idea I've been wanting to illustrate for a while. Being a big Star Wars fan I've always wanted to draw my own rendition of Darth Sidious/Emperor. The idea came to me one day at work while on lunch and like many other ideas, I sketched it out as a thumbnail and tossed it into my personal concept morgue. I also wanted to get this done before May 4th as it's international Star Wars day as well as our first born's due date! So here's to Star Wars and to a new generation I'll be passing on a piece of nostalgia to. May the 4th be with you!

My wife just turned the big 30 and we held a surprise party for her at one of her favorite restaurants, the Keg. Here's an image I made that was later printed as a card that everyone in attendance signed. You'll notice the cake is rittled with little icing icons that represent milestones and roles she's had through these past 30 years.

I think it makes for a better pose and composition. I'm currently doing the linnear work in flash and once thats done I'll be rendering it in Photoshop.

I've been pretty impressed so far with the results I can get using PITT artist pens. I've been enjoying sketch book work moreso than usual since it doesn't require me to be throwing down a bunch of lines to get the tones I want. I sketched this page over a day or so of dabbling. I've been flushing out a bunch of ideas for a story I have that seems to be filled with endless possibilities.

With one new furry addition to our family this year it seems we'll be adding another member in the year to come. It will be our first born scheduled to arrive in May (May the 4th be with you actually!). We're both very excited and are anxiously awaiting this tiny person who's currently a float in my beautiful wife's belly. This years card was one I personally like over the previous years since it features so many of our companions at home, I had more time and also because it captures us best, I think. Although, I may have been too generous on the amount of hair I drew for myself....

Here's a pic I've been working on for a while that's for Paul Stachniak and his online radio show called the Rewind. It features the four hosts in a pose some fans of the movie Anchor Man might recognize. From the left we have Ryan, Paul, Steve and Nathan. This was a fun project but always challenging when you don't know some of the people being caricatured. Knowing someones personality changes a drawing as many can attest to. Here's a picture we had framed for a wedding gift for our good friends Brad & Erin's . It depicts a very cool landmark in downtown Toronto that timeless and always a easy on the eyes. The picture took a good length of time to draw and required a lot of strokes to get any kind of mid tone. Next time I'll have to use a wash to save my wrist from strain and speed up the process.

We had a blast and I must say Progressive stadium has the best hot dogs and mustard I've ever had. After perhaps a year's work or more of development at http://www.splashworks.com/ we have completed and released Milk My Monkey for the iPhone. I've decided to post a few of the many images for Milk My Monkey that I had the pleasure to work on. Despite the app being rejected on it's first pass I think it may resurface with some censorship.

Our goal with these characters was to capture a similar feel to the artwork by Spumco (Ren & Stimpy) and I really hope that comes across. It's definitely a deviation from my personal style and comfort zone but it had most certainly provided a good challenge.

The Ghost of Sparta

Here's an illustration I felt compelled to do after playing through the God of war Collection for the PS3. Not only were the games a great deal of fun but the story, artwork and effort that went into these games is incredible. I found myself fascinated by the Greek mythological world they presented. As absurd as it was at times it fit the bizarre stories I remembered reading in grade school about the Gods of ancient greece. These dieties of old were nasty spiteful beings with the same desires as men despite their great powers. I find it really intriguing that ancient mythology like this still holds up so well today. I can rant and rave for a while about the GoW series but I'll leave it at this.

As for the illustration I'm actually painting it in photoshop and aiming for a nice rendered look. Here's an updated painted version...still need to fix a few things...almost done!

I'd personally play through the series again if and when the time to do so comes around.

Here's my take on this weeks Mermaids. I decided to create a mermaid that may have had to endure the real hardships of living in the ocean. Not the typical Mermaid that just sunbathes on rocks with shell bikini tops while sailors hollar out.

Half way through completing this I came up with the idea of doing an Abegail Sapien instead....oh well next time if we do seacreatures or sea peoples.

Big Daddy Ink

So here's the inked version of my previous post. I did this in flash and have made a few adjustments along the way that differ from the original sketch. I decided to add some extra barnacles on his body suit/armor. I also meant to draw a tool of sorts like the drill or rivot gun that the Big Daddys'from the first game used as weapons. And sticking to the theme of heavy duty tools I decided to create a one-handed "Jaws of Life" for my Big Daddy. I hope this looks like it would work in the world of Rapture it's been a fun little projects so far. Next step doing the flat colours in flash and then the final step of rendering textures and lighting in photoshop!

Here's a sketch I've done just for fun. I guess I've been inspired lately by all the amazing concept art I've seen for Bioshock 1 and the recent cover art for the sequel. I also just finished the game for my 3rd time on hard. Anyway I've decided to do my own personal variant of a Big Daddy.

I'm planning on bringing this sketch into Flash and then do the rendering, shading and textures in Photoshop. Perhaps I'll find some time to do the line work this week but in the meantime enjoy the sketch!

Here's a couple of images I decided to do for this weeks topic of Spider-man. On a personal not I have to say Todd McFarlane's Spider-man comics got me drawing at a young age ...well him and Wile E Coyote. Anyhow, I couldn't decide what to draw for this weeks topic with all the fun villains and poses you could come up with. But I remembered how much I loved Todd McFarlane's comic covers from the 80's and one in particular had classic spidey on the cover then it was redone later as black suit Spidey. Anyway this is an homage to both spider-man and Todd McFarlane's inspirational work that helped lead me to the field I'm in today and the craft I love.

Here's an illustration for a book Josh Frost is putting together that will showcase many interpretations of Darth Vader in homage to his creator GL. You can read more about the book on the link below.

I had two other possibilities for a finished peice but I thought this reflected what I felt and visualized when I would think of Darth Vader. I may end up doing one of the others in time just because it was pretty bizarre and fun. When my wife saw the picture she couldn't see how I made the connection to Darth Vader and ...anyway I'll leave that as it is and hopefully you'll see the other picture in due time. Well I must say this was hard to pick a bot for this week with all the cool transformers out there already. I haven't posted anything in a while having been focused on my CAKE vol 2 story. It's been a lot of fun and now with a deadline extension I can take more time to finesse a few things having nearly finished.

Doing a book is fun but it's always great to break away from a style and character to shake out new ideas that may pass you by while you work. Here's my take on a theme of duos. These two are Vorenus and Pullo from the HBO series Rome. I thought as characters go, they're relationship was one that always kept me eager for their next adventure. Vorenus the headstrong military leader who's hot temper is always set off by Pullo's density. And of course Pullo, the big dumb lovable ox who's quicker to deal with his problems in blood than reason.

Heres another art jumble post for dead celebrities. I chose to do Jack Palance, I hope it obvious enough that it's him. He had such a wild life you'd think it was film in itself. He was a war hero in WWII, held a heavyweight boxing champion title and won an Oscar.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Like most people I'm anxious to have some time off in the upcoming weeks ahead, to mingle, sleep in, play my xbox 360 and share some presents. Winter seems to always be a drag with it's lack of daylight and of course this frigid Canadian weather. I have tried to send this card to everyone within our 50 card limit, and hope that it can add a little cheer! I hope those of you who haven't recieved one enjoy this picture. I can't wait to do next years. Perhaps, I'll start over the holidays?

Snowmen of 2005

It's that time of year again... Mall madness, spending more than you make and of course fighting armies of evil snowmen who's poker party you made ruin when you peed on them. Okay, well that's not every ones idea of the holiday season but to Checkers, Buffy and David it is. These characters are based on my family pets who's abstracted personalities come to life in this scene of mayhem and quirkiness. I hope to make a short film about these guys one day, I think they'd take off on TV or in a film. Anyway, here's a picture to usher in the holiday season. It's too bad I won't have the time to make a part II this year!
